Cumbria is open… and we are ready!
Preparations continue here in Cumbria ready for the ‘big day’. The field is full and there are no more places available. Over 215 riders from the reserve list have been offered places and the final field will appear on the website in due course.
There are more first timers than ever this year. This is very encouraging or do the experienced riders know something they are not telling you? I will leave you to make your own mind up on that one.
One thing that has encouraged me are the number of riders asking about coming to the Lakes to prepare for the event. Please come, Cumbria is open for business and the more you know about the route and its challenges the safer it should be for all. You don’t need to ride every pass in preparation. Can I suggest something like – start in Grasmere, miss out Kirkstone Pass, and ride to Keswick on the A591 (currently closed to traffic). Go over Honister Pass (dangerous descent!), Buttermere return via Newlands Pass and back to Grasmere.
I realise that there are many disappointed riders out there who didn’t manage to get a place this year either via the lottery or the reserve list. There is one way to guarantee your place for 2017 and that is to volunteer to help with this year’s event. It takes over 200 volunteers to make the event what it is and that also means making the event as safe as it possibly could be. So if you are interested, drop me a line via the website and I will get back to you.
For those of you looking to camp or bringing your camper van there is limited space available for the first time at Grasmere Showground. If you would like a place reserving please Email me and I will add you to my list. This is on a purely first come first served basis with limited space.
