As the event gets ever closer, minds and bodies start to focus. Here are a few notes for your information;
The reserve list rider packs are now in the post with a few more late entries to go out very soon.
Don’t forget to come ‘wrapped up’, it is unseasonally cold here in Cumbria at the moment. You can always take clothes off if too hot – not so easy the opposite way round!
A note of caution: There is a new cattle grid at the foot of Wrynose Pass (be careful here, it is the most dangerous of all the descents) and it is slippy! For those not used to rural roads and cattle grids in particular there are a few basic guidelines:
Take them at 90 degrees
Don’t lean the bike over.
The campsite is now full as is the space for camper vans at Grasmere Showground.
A thought occurred a few days ago when discussing suitable bikes for the Saddleback Fred Whitton Challenge. Clearly a low geared road bike with durable tyres is the obvious choice but if anyone thought of using the increasingly popular E-bike, well don’t! You would only be kidding yourself and should you run out of battery you would end up outside the time limit waiting for it to re-charge!
Let’s hope for a dry day, a bit warmer than it is now.
