The big day looms
The ‘big day’ will soon be upon us and I would just like to wish everyone taking part – riders, volunteers and marshals alike and safe and enjoyable day.
You will circumnavigating, the most beautiful part of England … please leave it as you find it – no litter! Be polite to all other road users and obey the Highway Code at all times. Most, though not all, junctions are manned but all are signed. However, if you are in the middle of the field and find yourself off course – you can only have yourself to blame!
For the first time we have scrutineers out on the course looking for following vehicles and inappropriate cycles. Please, no wacky ideas as you will be prevented from starting.
As I have previously mentioned come prepared both physically and practically (serviced bike, new brake blocks and low gears). The cut off times will be strictly enforced with riders failing to get to Braithwaite for 12 noon will be directed to the ‘bailout’ route on the map. The cut off time for Calder Bridge is 3.00 pm. Don’t linger at the Calder Bridge feed station as the timing checkpoint is a little way down the road.
Spectators/followers please use the shuttle bus to Keswick and beyond where practicable. The less cars we have on the route the safer it will be for all.
