About Paul Loftus
Paul Loftus, known affectionately as ‘Lord Lofty’ has been the lead organiser of the Fred Whitton Challenge for over 16 years. In 2016 he was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours list for his services to cycling and charity.
The event is run by the Lakes Road Club, with Paul working tirelessly all year round making it happen in memory of his dear friend Fred Whitton.
The event is strictly a non-profit making venture, with proceeds going to MacMillan, Air Ambulances and Mountain Rescue.
We are the biggest single benefactor to MacMillan in Cumbria. Over the years we have donated over £1,595,000 and supported many local businesses in the process.
